UPDATE 4/6

Today is April, 6 – our 19th wedding anniversary, a very important and emotional day. 69 days after Michele’s accident. It’s been over a week since we’ve seen any significant sign from Michele.

I let Amy have some time alone with her sister this morning at the 9:30 a.m. visit. It was a great visit. Michele opened her eyes today, focused on Amy and was aware of her surroundings. Her breathing was very rapid at first, and it was brought down to a more normal level. The nurses say this happens often, its just her brain trying to regulate her breathing. Later that afternoon, my Aunt Sr. Anne, Sr. Joan, Brenda and John arrived to visit Michele. We prayed, and sang songs to Michele. The picture attached speaks a thousand words. Michele was awake, eyes open, listening to us surrounding her, praying for her, and singing to her. It was a great moment. Thank you Sr. Anne and Sr. Joan for your presence and your prayers.

Later this evening, Michele had her eyes open again during our visit. I massaged her arms, legs and feet, and reminded her of our 19th wedding anniversary. She heard me and even responded to a question by closing her eyes.

I also spoke with Dr. Bullock today, Michele’s neurosurgeon. I wanted to discuss our plan of attack for the next week. Currently, Michele is fighting infections and is not able to handle the shunt operation. He is concerned why she is not moving. There is no plan of treatment over the weekend, we will wait until I return on Monday, and will discuss the possibility of steroid treatment. The treatment will hopefully help stimulate or “jump start” her muscle movement. It also comes with another set of problems, blood clots, decreased immune system, etc. We will monitor her responses over the next few days and decide next week of the next steps in her treatment.

Overall, it was a good day. Michele was awake and present while we are in the room with her. She is fighting with all that she has. Please keep praying. The fight is very difficult and has lasted so long already. We constantly reassure Michele that we are with her every step of the way and that all of her friends and family are praying for her.

John
